Day 6 - Museums and a Festival
This morning, while getting ready to leave for the museums, I ran into these 3 missionaries for my church. One of them was from Utah and the other 2 were from different countries in South America.
Today we visited quite a few museums and churches. The first one was by the military fort that we tried to visit the other day but it was closed. The big pottery below was used as urns for the dead. They also used pottery for part of their daily lives. It was nice to walk around and take the time to read the plaques. I could actually understand a lot of it even though it was in Portuguese.
Next we visited a very old church. There were several of these carved pictures on the walls all around the church. They all depicted Jesus Christ and the cross. As someone who is super religious, I really enjoyed these and their meaning.
We then went to a restaurant on the river and the view was so gorgeous. We had family style meals and all shared the food. I mostly ate the chicken, beans, and rice.
Look at all this yummy meat!! It was so good. One thing they don't skimp on in Brazil is the food. There is a lot of it and it is very inexpensive.
Walking around this part of the city is just pure magic. It seems that the clouds always sit just below this old church. It's one of my favorite views.
The artwork that is all around the city in random spots is so cool! We decided to have a little time at their shopping mall next but sadly, I didn't take many pictures to share.
Here is another view of our little room with 12 beds in it at our hostel! It actually wasn't that bad. We all seemed to get along and everyone slept well. It was fun being around these cool people, too.
That night we went to the Festiva Junina. You can click HERE to learn more about this celebration.
The food was amazing and we all tried different types. I could eat and eat all day long while I am here. I am starting to crave all of it! Well, maybe not the pizza but almost everything else.
I had a really super yummy Guaraná shake that they put Nutella, peanut brittle (which was just a Butterfinger), chocolate, and ice. It was my favorite!!
I asked the workers if I could take their picture because they just seemed so joyful. Have I mentioned yet how awesome the people of Brazil are? They are some of the friendliest people that I have ever met on my world travels.
At the festivals we got to sit and watch kids perform in different age groups. They were the most precious and really made me miss my grand babies.
It was super hot and humid in the building but they had large fans that helped us cool off. Here are some of the sweet girls I've been able to hang out with for the past week.
They also had some amazing tribal dances that were performed. I'm not sure what any of them meant but by the cheers of the crowd, they were pretty impressive.
Here is our little group from Utah having the best time time. We are just about ready to head back to the hostel. They have one more night of music and dancing in the restaurant. We get to experience one more night with super loud music and dancing.
